Program
The ICTCM 2012 Program is now available--along with the schedule for the Calculator Workshops and the Computer Minicourses!
ICTCM has something for everyone—from developmental mathematics to calculus, statistics, teacher preparation, and beyond. Presenters will review popular teaching and learning tools, and emerging technologies such as the iPhone, Twitter, SmartPen, Second Life, YouTube, CP3, and Elluminate. No matter how you want to experience ICTCM—sessions, papers, workshops, or mincourses—you will return home ready to experiment with new tools and skills, integrate technology into your courses, and inspire your students in new ways.
The 2012 Keynote Address will be delivered Conrad Wolfram on the topic of Stop Teaching Calculating, Start Teaching Math.
ICTCM will have a pre-session on Thursday: Cool – i – Tools: Teaching with Them.
No matter what you call it - iPad, Motorola Xoom, Toshiba Thrive, HP TouchPad, Blackberry PlayBook, Smartphones - these touch tablet/mobile learning devices are part of our technology culture and are poised to fundamentally change the learning environment--but HOW? Join us for a look at how to incorporate these devices as practical and purposeful tools for teaching and learning. Explore new ways of reading, writing, watching and thinking that accompany this platform. Investigate apps that improve academic life. Bring your device and learn how to use it for more than a flashlight when the power goes off in your classroom. *You must be registered for ICTCM in order to participate in the Thursday Presession. The additional cost is $100 and includes breakfast and lunch.
The regular ICTCM Program is composed of three formats:
- Session (45 minute lecture presentation)
- Calculator Workshop (1 hr 45 minute hands-on, interactive presentation; calculators will be provided)
- Computer Minicourse (1 hr 45 minute hands-on, interactive presentation; computer lab with equipment for participants)
Sessions are open to all registered attendees. Calculator Workshops and Computer Minicourses are open to all registered attendees. However, enrollment is limited due to the hands-on nature of these offerings. Each attendee may select up to two workshops and two minicourses.
In addition, there will be MyMathLab/MathXL/MyStatLab Bonus Training Sessions on Thursday, March 22, 2012. These workshops are intended for faculty who are already teaching with MyMathLab, MathXL, MyStatLab, or MyMathTest, and would like to learn more customization techniques and increase their implementation of these programs in their courses. All workshops are hands-on and will be paced to allow participants to practice the techniques in their own courses. Participants will be required to register for the ICTCM conference and also register for one of the training strands. Computers will be provided for each registered participant.
Course #1 - Beyond the Basics is designed for instructors who understand the basics of MyMathLab, MathXL, MyStatLab, or MyMathTest, and are ready to learn more. Part 1 topics will include further customization of homework/quizzes/tests, gradebook customization, managing student results, and managing multiple sections of the same course. Part II topics will include utilizing online communication tools, customizing the learning environment, and adding customized content.
Course #2 - The Next Level is designed for instructors who are experienced in the use of MyMathLab, MathXL, MyStatLab, or MyMathTest, and want to learn about and use the custom exercise builder. Part 1 topics will include copying and editing publisher provided exercises, sample question bank exercises, and exercises created by another instructor. Part II topics will include creating your own static or algorithmic custom questions and creating questions that include number lines, graphs, pie charts, bar charts, and figures.
